Happy Cancerversary?

So, as I post this, I reach the 1 year point since the day I heard the words “You have Cancer”.  It was the follow up appt from my surprise surgery that Sherry and I had flown to Edmonton for the day to see the Doc.  Looking back on that day, I did what most people would probably do after being told that news – I went over to Cycle Works Edmonton and looked at motorcycles to buy.  Called my mom from the parking lot of the motorcycle dealer to tell her the news. As I type this, I am sitting at home in the aftermath of  my 4th TURBT… Read More

May Update

Hey everyone, sorry for being out of touch the last month.  Many things to do, many things on my mind.  The weather has come around for riding, so I have been getting out for as many turns as I can, while I can.  People come to visit, others go away to visit and leave me unsupervised… I know I haven’t posted a update about how the whole Cancer process is going, so I put one here as a full update – I call it “Lather, Rinse, Repeat”. This weekend in Edmonton – there many unique things to do – if you want to join me at roller derby – check… Read More

Priorities

It was kind of a funny thing today…. I was editing my video that will be a part of this blog, and I had a facebook friend make a comment that was kinda related.  It really made sense to me after having the conversation with my camera. My friend Pat Masterson (lives in Nova Scotia right now) included the following statement –  “Time to invest more in experiences”.  I couldn’t agree more.  That is why this song also resonates. The reality is that you will likely see a theme in many of the things that I say or do.  Just like when I refer to Steve Barnes, who has shifted his… Read More

Social media and fundraising with social media

So, I am writing this one now… I have tried recording video a couple of times.  I tried outside as the weather is getting better, and both times audio became a problem.  I want to get out of the basement….. giving up on video for a bit until I figure out a better solution. Overall, things are good.  I am keeping busy and not getting into too much trouble.  Energy reserves are still low, but that was to be expected.  I have been working on things to keep my mind busy as I still feel that I need to work on my mental game, more than physical.  My body keeps… Read More

Awareness

The term awareness has taken a whole new meaning lately, and I have come to the conclusion that awareness is something the world needs more of… I have more time sitting back in Edmonton now….. should do better at getting videos and info up.

The simple things in life

One of the key elements that cancer includes is a keen desire to reflect on the past, the finer things, and the simpler things.  It will also help you turn your thoughts towards the future with a careful reflection upon our past, the things we did or didn’t do, why we did or didn’t do something, and do we want to do something about it, are the factors used to decide upon the path to follow when making decisions in the present. I used to confuse people when we were drinking by occasionally making up some wildly philosophic saying, credit it to an unknown important sounding person in the past. … Read More

More to add

I forgot to include a few things on my last video… I remembered them during the editing, but still forgot to add them.  I explain my mind racing a little better – I think, but I also remembered the shout out that I wanted to do.  I did this quickly – 1 take… so that I didn’t forget again. Here is the link to the Dalhousie group that I encourage all my Halifax friends, family etc to check out. www.facebook.com/groups/1549348405300091/ From thier “about” section  – Bladder cancer is currently the fifth most common cancer in Canada but has very little awareness and reasearch funding compared to other major cancers. We would like… Read More

short chat about what I have been learning

So, I have learned a few things about my camera – after I learned about messing up the focus…, had a bit of a snag with lighting, then the furnace started…  Overall, not much new- only took me 3 days to get this video completed… but I realized that my hair was a mess and I say UMMM and AHHH way tooo much.  I even editted a number of them out of it.  I do have some new tricks though. I have another idea that I will try tomorrow….

Emotions

I recently had a phone call that is never fun.  Someone close to me had a doctor tell him that of what ails him; cancer is one of the possible answers to his current situation. We chatted about the ups and downs about the roller coaster ride of what a cancer diagnosis would do to his emotions.  After the call, I thought about how I went through the ride, and how I still feel about the ride, as it is still ongoing. The good news, his current situation is most likely not cancer. The day that I flew down to Edmonton, to meet with the uroligist, and the days preceding that… Read More
